DIY Penguin Christmas Village: Basic Penguin

A number of years ago I really wanted to get a Christmas village.  But, lacking hundreds of dollars to buy one, I decided to try to make one out of Sculpey clay.  I decided to make penguins as the main residents of the town, and each year have been adding new individuals and objects to the scene.  Each penguin is about half an inch tall.

Here's a guide to make the Basic Penguin
(with Santa hat)

Start with an oval of black, then add a small ball on top.  Take a thin strip of white, flatten it, and lay it down as the belly. Press the penguin against the table to give it a flat bottom so it can stand up.

For the beak, take a very small bit of yellow and pinch to make a point.

The hat starts as a ball of red and a smaller ball of white.  Flatten the white ball, then press the red on top, and pinch like you did with the beak.  Once on the penguin, add another small ball of white on top.

The wings are small flat strips of black, attached to both sides.  Finally, poke eye holes with a toothpick.

Bake at 275F for about 15 minutes to harden

  You're done!
